What is coaching anyway?

You may be unsure what coaching is, how it differs from counselling or confused by all the different 'types' (such as coaching psychology?).....if so then read on & I will lay out my approach to coaching. As an unregulated profession, I encourage you to think carefully about who you engage as a coach. Coaching has lots to offer but it's important your coach has the right skills & experience.

What is Coaching and is it right for me?

Coaching is a collaborative and empowering process. Unlike counselling, which tends to largely focus on exploring the past, coaching is more future focussed. Due to this, it is important that you have a desire to make changes in your life. Together, we'll delve into your goals, dreams, and aspirations to create a clear path forward. Through conversations, goal setting, and practical strategies, we'll work on overcoming obstacles and aligning your life with your values and aspirations.

As a coaching psychologist my approach in underpinned by psychological theory and I practice inline with my professional & ethical boundaries. I bring a holistic approach to coaching, considering all areas of your life, including career, relationships, personal growth, and well-being. There are many different 'types' of coaching, simply put they are just different specialisms or areas of focus. My focus is mainly on general wellness & life coaching; particularly (but not exclusively) with clients who identify as neurodivergent - both diagnosed and self-identified.

My approach

While traditional coaching often revolves around setting clear goals, my approach is rooted in narrative exploration, accommodating clients who may be uncertain of their end destination but are seeking change nonetheless. In line with the progressive 'third wave' of coaching psychology, I prioritize the process over the outcome. Together, we delve into your life story, honoring your present needs and nurturing your future growth. Drawing from the Gestalt paradoxical theory of change, I believe authentic transformation occurs when individuals align their narrative with their values and identity, rather than merely conforming to societal norms.

My coaching framework extends beyond behavioural change to encompass a holistic exploration of identity, encompassing both body and mind. In today's digital age, where external evaluations abound, cultivating a strong sense of self is more crucial than ever.

I provide a scaffold for clients to delve into their experiences, offering a secure foundation for safe exploration and change. With a focus on wellbeing and positive psychology, we explore topics such as strengths, values, meaning, and self-compassion together.

If you're ready to embark on a transformative journey through coaching, I'm here to support you. Let's connect and explore how we can work together to help you thrive and achieve a meaningful life.
